About us
Payment Justice is run by Jordan Thaeler, author of Reforming Retail.
We've worked in payments for over a decade. We're preparing filings with the FTC and state consumer protection agencies to bring transparency to payment processing, especially at Shift4. In our view, what Shift4's customers have documented is much worse than what's alleged against Toast.
We're also working with counsel to get merchants' documents in front of the appropriate litigators.
What we aren't
We aren't a law firm, and sending us documents doesn't make us or our counsel your lawyer. We aren't a government agency. We can't promise that a report will lead to a lawsuit or a recovery.
Confidentiality and sharing
JJT Optima LLC operates Payment Justice and receives everything sent through this site. By sending a report or documents, you agree to these terms.
- What we share. We may anonymize the information in your report and documents and share it with the FTC, state consumer protection agencies and litigators.
- How we anonymize it. We remove your name, your business's name, contact details and account numbers where we can. Documents can contain other details that point back to you, so we can't promise that no one could work out who you are.
- Who sees it as you sent it. Jordan Thaeler, our counsel and the people helping us review submissions.
- Your identity. We won't give your identity to an agency or litigator without asking you first, unless the law requires it. A subpoena or court order could require us to hand over what you sent, including your identity.
- Everyone else. We don't sell your information, and we won't share it with anyone else without your permission.
- How long we keep it. We store submissions encrypted, with limited access, and keep them for at least three years. If you ask us to stop by emailing contact@paymentjustice.com, we won't share your submission further, but we can't recall what we've already shared.
- Legal privilege. We aren't your lawyers, so don't assume attorney-client privilege protects what you send.
